THE GREAT UNDERGROUND WINE CITIES: A WINE TOUR IN MOLDOVA
This small country between Romania and Ukraine, has 4 million inhabitants, and 20 times smaller than France. For five thousand years the vine is cultivated here, but it is the Russians who, in the nineteenth century, laid the foundations of modern viticulture. With the climate particularly conducive to grape, Tsar Alexander invited the French winemakers to come and work in Moldova, then known as Bessarabia. Partially destroyed during the Second World War, the vineyards and cellars were restored by the Soviets after 1950. "The land of bad roads, pretty girls and good wine" is anyway the 11th largest wine producer in the world !

J3 A day in the country! We descend to the south, this time to go and meet the winemakers and visit their small family farms of 2, 3 hectares, and traditional way of working with extreme care. Their purpose is merely to provide wine of the best quality, and necessarily limited in quantity. They form an association and you are visiting them in this sunny region in the south, close to the Black Sea. Tastings, meetings in a particularly friendly atmosphere among wine lovers! Late afternoon, no return to Chisinau, but lodging and dining in the area Purcari (depending on size of group, if not overnight Chisinau)
J4 Another big name in Moldova but also among connoisseurs abroad: Purcari. www.purcari.md where you will taste the "Negru of Purcari" and discover a deep red, round structure that has nothing to envy to a good bordeaux. It is a unique blend of cabernet, Rara neagra Moldovan and Georgian Saperavi. Tasting and souvenir gift. Then return towards the capital city, but before that finally visiting the largest cave in the world (listed in the Guinness book) : Milestii Mici http://www.milestii-mici.md/ You'll be even more impressed by this underground city than in Cricova's !.
