Day 1
Arrive in Bucharest. The airport being in the North of the city , we head directly to the Prahova Valley , at the foothills of Southern Carpathians. We arrive in the narrow valley of Moeciu and are welcome by Daniela in her pension, where we’ll stay the next 3 nights.

Day 2
After a sturdy breakfast, we do our first hike in the Bucegi massif. We walk on some of the most beaten trails in the country, thanks to the proximity of the capital city but also for the scenery . We reach back by foot Moeciu . Around 6, 7 hours.

Day 3
From our pension , another massif, Piatra Craiului , beautiful limestone mountain and 5 hours walk among the highest villages of the country. Also , that day we can take time to visit the Bran castle or…Dracula castle! Back to Daniela’s.

Day 4
Change of region , we are today in Transylvania. We drive today having on our left “the Alps of Transylvania” before reaching Sibiu after 2h30 of transfer. Day for tourism and visit in Sibiu that is the prettiest city of Romania and has been in 2007 European Capital of Culture. At the end of the day we go to the nearby village of Sibiel in Cristina’s pension where , here too, we are warmly welcome and will stay 2 nights Dinner in-house and rooms with private bath/ toilet.

Day 5
Around 6 hours hike in the Cindrel mountains , from our village, starting from a forest road then on narrow paths to the crest and back on villages trails to Sibiel. We have that day the first opportunity to meet shepherds and monks in their tiny monasteries in the forest. At the end of the afternoon , in Sibiel we’ll visit the small glass painted icons museum . Night in our pension.

Day 6
We continue our discovery of the country by going to the Saxon Transylvania, with pastel coloured villages and fortified churches, real citadels of Faith. Road transfer of about one and half  hour and we start our today’s hike in Biertan , where there is one of the most impressive of these churches, part of Unesco world heritage. 5 hours hike from valley to valley, village to village really off the beaten path. Also probably the opportunity to meet the real gypsies! At the end of our hike, our minicoach waits for us and takes us , in 20 mn, to Sighisoara , Medieval citadel very well preserved where Vlad the Impaler or…Dracula was born ! Visit of the old citadel and tonight we are staying in a nearby village mainly inhabited by ethnic Hungarians who are proud to show their traditions. Dinner and night in village homes. One bathroom for 2 rooms.

Day 7
Easy walk this morning to a sheepfold , and we continue by road our tour . Short stop in the cosy city of Tirgu-Mures , then we reach the central plateau of Transylvania and the village of Salva at the foothills of Rodna mountains that is the main range of mountains in the north of the county. We are tonight the Gina’s guests in her new home.
Her occupation is making folklore costumes for many folkore bands of the country and obviously , we are welcome to visit her workshop. One bathroom/toilets for 2 rooms.

Day 8
Short road transfer of about 20mn in a pretty valley and we reach the top of a pass where we discover another legendary region: Maramures. Nice 4 hours hike on the crest from where we can see the Ukraine Carpathian mountains, and easy downhill towards typical villages of the Isa valley , rich of wooden houses and wooden churches. Our driver waits for us in the valley and takes us in 30mn to Vadu Izei at Vasile and Ileana pension where we’ll stay 2 nights.

Day 9
Day for hiking in the region in the typical villages as well as for tourism , because we’ll visit the Merry Cemetery of Sapinta, and the frontier town of Sighetul Marmatiei , a real melting pot of Eastern European people and that was the cradle of the Ashkenazy jews. Elie Wiesel, Peace Nobel prize was born here. Return to Ileana’s at Vadu Izei.

Day 10
Change of region today with a road transfer to the East of the country. We do a “pause” in this transfer by doing a 3.h30 hike in the Rodna mountains , climbing near a waterfall before reaching the crest . Wild landscape, thick forestries inhabited by bears. We continue our way along the wild Bistrita valley to reach Bucovina , region famous for its painted monasteries, part of the Unesco world Heritage. Accommodation in Sucevita, these next 2 nights in a friendly family’s home. One bathroom toilet for 2 rooms.

Day 11
Hike in the trails linking one monastery to another , allowing us to visit Sucevita, Moldovita. We also take the opportunity to visit Voronet, and a pottery, as well as the traditional egg-painting for the Orthodox Easter. Return to Sucevita.

Day 12
We head South today and after 1h30 of road transfer we arrive in another knot of monasteries, these ones less visited but also very interesting: hidden in the forest , or some of them inhabited by nuns, who have little houses around the monastery itself, and with beautiful well kept , flower gardens. 4 hours hike from monastery to monastery. At the end of the hike we continue by road going through the impressive Bicaz Canyon and allowing us another nice walk before reaching our nice pension for tonight.

Day 13
Early start for Bucharest , but nevertheless awith a break en-route for a 4 hours hike near Brasov. Arriving in the afternoon in Bucharest. c/in hotel 3* and time for sightseeing , dinner in a restaurant in town.

Day 14 
Morning free, possibility to visit the Ceausescu’s building, transfer airport. Lunch not included.
